Top 5 films from 2012

God this was hard! Ok before i get to my top 5 , i want to mention by biggest disappointment of the year and that was

The Master

I love Paul Thomas Anderson and i was looking forward to this.  The acting from Philip Seymour Hoffman , Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams was unreal, 3 of them was as good as each other. But the problem was this was the only good thing in the film. The rest was a mess that left the audience bored cold and without interest.

Other films i enjoyed but never would get into top 5

John Carter was enjoyable , Snow white and the huntsman was surprisingly good, Prometheus was better than i taught it would, Ted was Family Guy on big screen., Trouble with curve and Looper i really liked but that might have to do with my admiration for Amy Adams and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Flight with its amazing crash scene, Silver Lining Playbook  and Jack Reacher

Films that could easily made the top 5 but there was no room

  • The Hunger Games
I really enjoyed this was very well made but it narrowly missed out due to been too many other good films out.

  • The Avengers
I left the cinema going wow, that was amazing. the clever use of all the marvel films leading up to it really lead to wasting no time introducing the charters. Very good final scene but just misses out on top 5.

  • Skyfall
Another one hard to leave out. I was a big James bond Film when i was young but the reboot with Daniel Craig really made its interesting for me again. I loved the clever use of the new and the old in the film and it would stand up to been a good film , not just a good James Bond.

  • The impossible
This was in my top 5 for a while and i dropped it out. Very well made film looked brilliant. The use of big water tanks instead of using CGI for the wave paid off as it looks a lot more real. A very emotional film and you want a heart of stone not to be saddened.

The Top 5

Number 5: Life Of Pi

I really loved this, Such a great story and brilliant cinematography to make it look amazing. After watching it i felt it be high on the top 5 but i re-watched it the other week and its still good but not as good, I think the bit at the end where he tells 2 stories and you have to pick which one you want to believe added to it a lot. That surprise is gone but its still very good on seeing it again.

Number 4: The Dark Knight Rises

I think if Chris Nolan had not made the Dark Knight this might have been higher, Because the Dark Knight was so good it was going to be hard to match it or better it . That left a bit of disappointment about this one. Having said that you got to look at it for what it is , and that still a very good film.

Number 3: Moonrise Kingdom

What a cute weird brilliant little film this was . big cast from Bruce Willis, Bill Murray and Ed Norton to name a few and brilliant acting form the two teenagers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. It was just so well made and so enjoyable.

Number 2: Django Unchanged

I think this might be my favorite Quentin Tarantino film. With Tarantiono you get the normal violence , awesome sound track , brilliant long dialog scenes and overall fun factor but with this there was some brilliant acting from the surprising  Jamie Foxx , Leonardo DiCaprio but it was Christoph Waltz who stole the show

Number 1 : Argo

Ar go fuck your self , this is my number 1 . Its my number 1 because i could not fault any of it. The suspense was so well done through the film it had you on the edge of your seat all the time. Just the right amount of humor was used as well just at the right times. you have to say fair play to Ben Affleck he really can direct who knew .

My top 5 films of all time

If there one question i hate getting asked all the time its "what your favorite film? " what makes its worse that this is normal asked in small talk with someone . Like i just going to ask you this question in the casual manor. its a bit like asking someone "well what do you think the meaning of life is for a hedgehog? "

Picking your favorite film is not something you can do at the drop of a hat, to be honest i not sure its something you can do at all , i am sure its almost impossible and i never tell people my favorite film instead  telling them , "seriously your asking me that , you might as well ask me the launch codes for north Korea imagery nuclear missile" . If someone tells you there favorite film they probably taught about it for 5 minutes and picked a film. They are either a) lying and are too polite to tell you that your question is stupid or b) they don't have a big interest in films and have picked some film they seen at Christmas and liked it . or c) they picked Shawshank Redemption cause everyone else picks it .

So to save me giving out to people who ask me what my favorite film is i am going to attempt to pick my top 5. A big ask that going to need a lot of research that might take years. So how am i going to even start at this?  well i going to pick a top 5 for every year that i am born. As hard as a task this is, its a dam sight easier than picking your all time top 5. Once i have all the top 5's for the years 1978 - 2013 i will see can i make a top 5 out of off the number 1 throughout the years .

However a word of warning ,there are three notes to remember. Number 1 is, i not seen every film ever made, i can only judge and pick on what i have seen, so before you confront me on the street in a slight angry way waving a samurai sword at me just remember your favorite film , i may not have seen it!

Number 2 , there been lots of good films made before i was born in 1978 and i seen a lot of them that could end up in a all time top 5 , but to be frank , if i am going to do a top 5 for ever year films was made i need to pass on this project to my grandchildren.

Number 3, and this is the interesting one. how do you class a great film ? is it something you watch and go wow that was amazing , or is it something you can see 5 times and still go wow at the end? some films on first watching are amazing , then when you re-watch them a few times there a bit meh , one examples of this are films with big plot twists, shutter island, the six sense, for example first time of watching you were wow , but now looking at them there no where as near as good. Then you got films that you could watch over and over and are still as good, Goodfella's Big Lebowski for example. I not sure of the answer and i think i kinda float between the two. I hope you will enjoy :)
